Met One Instruments Inc. is one of the leaders in research, development and manufacture of meteorological instruments, particulate monitors, data loggers and environmental software. One of the oldest instrument manufacturer's in the United States, MOI continues to provide the leading edge in instrumentation, data logging, environmental software and monitoring systems worldwide.
Projects have included entire meteorological monitoring networks for countries from Asia to the Middle East, as well as the major part of PM10 monitoring within the USA and International sites. Onsite training and commissioning for complete end-user satisfaction has always been the goal. Private industry, research institutions, universities, military and home defense organizations, as well as all levels of government environmental agencies are amongst its satisfied customers.
The company began business in 1976 as Met One, Inc. The first of several high quality 'Met Set' meteorological monitoring systems and a line of clean room monitoring instruments were introduced. Growth was brisk and the company quickly outgrew the facilities. In 1989 Met One Instruments, Inc. was formed to focus on the growing environmental market and the entire meteorological product line was transferred at that time.
The company has grown through careful planning, dedication to customer service and the ability to design and manufacture quality products. Additional growth has come about with company acquisition and joint venture partnerships.
Northwest Technology was acquired in 1991; the company specialized in fabrication operations for various semi-conductor and aircraft companies. The facilities of Northwest Technology enabled MOI to greatly expand instrumentation manufacturing. Beyond the fabrication capabilities, Northwest Technology provided key knowledge of basic robotics that was later employed in some of the air products.

Some landmark years for MET
1989:
Putting the MET back into Met One as the company commits to quick response! This becomes a guideline for the future and the market responds with the extra effort to insure the customer satisfaction.
1990:
The Multi-Met Meteorological System was introduced at the annual Air Waste Management Convention. The Multi-Met added the flexibility to join various weather sensors with customers' existing SCADA systems and data loggers. Customers could easily upgrade existing systems within budget.
1990:
Met Set 90 Weather Station was introduced as the first easy-to-use data logger with each Met Set 90 configured by the factory for ease of field installation. The company listens to its customers and they respond.
1992:
Met One introduced the first of the LAB instrumentation shelters for OEM and ambient monitoring. Again, company responed to customer's requirements and successfully shipped hundreds of shelters to various parts of the country and overseas. MOI provided complete air quality systems with shelters as well as shelters to other systems integrators.
1993:
' Plug and Play ' sensors for the meteorological market are invented and applied to the new AutoMet data logger. Customers no longer needed to program their data logger; just plug the sensor in, set the clock and be up and running. Estimated time of deployment, with initial training, less than 5 minutes!
The meteorological product line of Teledyne Geotech was acquired in and key personnel were moved into a new Dallas Regional office. The acquisition provided Met One with increased sales base, seasoned engineers and a new family of products. Existing TG product line was expanded and improved over the next few years and has been a significant contributor to the Met One product line.
1994:
Met One Instruments purchases technology to develop the first US made continuous particulate monitor using beta technology. Production begins in 1995 of the BAM 1020 and becomes the only USA manufactured beta gauge with NRC license to ship within the USA. Later, the BAM 1020 becomes the only USA manufactured beta gauge to receive USEPA Equivalency.
1995:
The GT-640 Portable Particulate Monitor for emergency response monitoring is introduced. With a solar/battery power option, the unit quickly becomes a standard for fence line monitoring on construction and earth moving sites.
Working with Mosel of Taiwan in 1995, they provided the company with software products in three languages, English, Spanish and Chinese.
1996:
The GT-321 Hand Held Particle Counter is introduced at the American Industrial Hygiene Convention. The GT-321 becomes a volume OEM product and is currently sold worldwide through dozens of organizations.
Sibata Scientific of Japan and Met One Instruments joined together to share optical technologies during 1996 through 2000. This shared effort helped in the development of several optical particulate-sensing products.
1997:
The GT-521 Hand Held Particle Counter is introduced with expanded features including: data logging, two channel operation, and user set points at 0.1 micron intervals. The GT-521 becomes the most popular hand-held instrument.
1997:
MOI introduced Sonic Wind Sensing with the Model 50.5 Sonic Wind Sensor. The 50.5 was designed to replace conventional sensors for longer term unattended operation. There are no moving parts with the 50.5 and the ouput signal maybe analog voltage, serial or SDI-12. Each 50.5 is individually tested in the Met One wind tunnel against an NIST traceable standard to insure quality performance. Applied Technology Inc. of Colorado and MOI jointly designed the new solid-state wind sensor using doppler ultrasonic measurement techniques.
1998:
EPA equivalency was awarded to MOI for the BAM 1020, which led to expanded domestic and international sales of the BAM.
1998:
Responding to the EPA Speciation Network requirements, Met One developed the SASS Speciation Sampler forming a joint venture with Aerosol Dynamics. The success of the SASS was measured by customer response. Met One provided over 85% of the intruments in the Network. The instrument provided the user with benefits that were unique compared to other particulate samplers. The SASS was truly portable, could be installed by a single person with simple user-interface at a lower cost.
2000:
The Aerocet 531 was introduced to the market. The Aerocet 531 combines particulate and mass measurements in a single small hand-held instrument with easy to use data logging.
2001:
Design was completed on the new E-BAM, a portable Beta Gauge that traces its calibration through the BAM 1020 to the EPA reference standards. The E-BAM is completely portable and may be used with solar panel and batteries.
2002:
The E-Sampler Continuous Particulate Monitor was introduced and included a built-in data logger and a 47 mm changeable filter media. The filter could be used for reference comparison. The E-Sampler has a custom case and special tripod to make set-up super quick.
Climet Instruments meteorological product line was purchased in this year and integrated with other instrumentation products at Grants Pass. The Climet purchase provided Met One with some specialized test equipment and product designs.
2003:
Met One put it's foot in the water with the introduction of the Model 821 Water Level Sampler. The 821 uses differential pressure to determine water depth and incorporates a unique purge system to maintain operation even in silt-laden streams. A big advantage of the Model 821 is the multiple monitoring ports.
MOI employs engineers and trained technicians to develop and support old and new customers. Training is given throughout the year to distributors as well as customers in the factory. Call your sales representative to make an appointment or your project engineer to schedule training on your systems before they ship.
Government agencies and organizations consistently monitor MOI to assure quality control and product manufacturing.
After-sales service plays a major part in customer service. A full time service department, product managers, department administrators and the owners, are available to our customers. Through e-mail, customers may be serviced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If any of the MOI employees cannot answer you immediately, they will answer as soon as they are able.

2004:
Purchased Climatronics Corporation in Bohemia, New York. The change was not announced at the time as it was not seen as an acquisition, but a long term investment. We have been proud of the fact that both companies have worked together, as well as independently.
2005:
Busting out at the seams, Met One finally outgrew our single facility and purchased a second building. The new facility gave us the space to grow engineering, to relocate the Particle Counter Operations, and to give customer support and service the much needed space.
2006:
While the world began to outsource all manufacturing, Met One Instruments fought the 'wisdom' of the moment and expanded our internal operations. Keeping the focus on 'insource' manufacturing we greatly expanded our machine shop operations and added sheet metal capabilities. Further, we added automatic circuit board capabilities with a robotic 'pic and place' surface mount capability.
Cost reduction is always important, but customer response is even more important! The focus on 'insource' manufacturing gave us the ability to respond as quickly as the market required.
2007:
SASS (Speciation Monitor) sales reached a total US market share of 100%, a testimony to the many satisfied users.
The BAM 1020 began testing for the PM 2.5 FEM standard.
The new GT-526 Six Channel Particle Counter was introduced and quickly became a very significant offering for indoor monitoring applications.
The new 212 Profiler was introduced for outdoor applications. This unit is packaged in a weatherproof housing and is designed to measure and report particle size information on a continuous basis. One application of the 212 supported a government test of 'Force Protection' for the military. Another application is for portable monitoring that can be carried on a person walking around a city or area.
Also, after months of testing, we achieved our goals to obtain TUV PM 10 and ISO.9000.
2008:
The news this year was the award of EPA EQPM-0308-70 for the PM FEM 2.5 BAM 1020. We were the first to receive the approval for PM2.5 continuous monitors.
2009:
We purchased an engineering firm to help fulfill our R&D division. We are keeping up with our goal to listen to customers and provide them with equipment which are reliable, accurate, rugged and easy to maintain.
MOI was awarded EQPM-0709-185 for their PM Coarse Monitor. This completes USEPA Equivalency for all our BAM 1020 monitors.
